Open AV Retriever Working Test - 20th July 2025

It is always an immense privilege to hold any event at Windsor Great Park and, on 20th July 2025, we held our Open Working Test by gracious invitation of His Majesty The King, The Crown Commissioners and the Head Gamekeeper, Peter Clayton.

Before the day started, a minute’s silence was held in memory of Gerry Price who passed away recently. Gerry did so much for GWGC over the years (catering many a good fundraising evening for the club!) and the gundog community generally and he will be sorely missed.

We had five fantastic judges – James Bailey, John Stubbs, Barry Taylor, Liz Taylor and Alan Buckland. It was a mixed day weather wise but the day went smoothly and we were all finished by 2.15pm.

Our congratulations go to the award winners:

1st       The Challenge Cup – Welige Lady Sybil of Wight handled by Bryony Hamilton

2nd      The Rollin Shield – Rookhollow Dahlia Of Woodlandway handled by Beth Morgan

3rd       Troddenmills If Only handled by Robert Small

4th       Harhamhouse Moet Of Woodlandway handled by Beth Morgan

COM    Gwidigada Ivy handled by Jennifer Thomas

COM    FtCh Tullysedge Incas Gold handled by Sue Jordan

COM    Jocifers Storm handled by Tim Pain

Huge thanks to the judges for giving up their time and for their expertise, to the competitors for their good humour and to our fabulous helpers who always give up their day so willingly and are one of the reasons the day ran so smoothly – each helper was offered a small gift of thanks as a token of the club’s appreciation.  Our thanks also go to our sponsors – Skinner’s, Sporting Saint – Gundog Training Equipment and Silent Pool Gin.

Finally, the GWGC Committee members always put so much time and effort in behind the scenes to run these events, helping each other out and covering for each other as necessary.  Thank you to them all!

That’s our 2025 Working Test season done now. We look forward to starting it all over again in March 2026!
